This seems the most logical for getting some grindy value. I'm wanting to build EDH dredge, which has always been on the list, and I can't pick a commander. Messing with the graveyard is always what the heart wants, despite some poor Meren decks in the past. The only real cost is the sac ability, so you can drain the table as many times as you can recast Hogaak.I've always wanted to build dredge. I've been able to loop Hogaak with him 3 or 4 times to drain out the table. Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord: This dude ends games. Multani, Yavimaya's Avatar / Kessig Cagebreakers: Multani is a huge threat with all the lands in grave while Kessig Cage makes a ton of wolves (and they stick around to attack again!). Dredge 3, Draw 5, discard the 3 dredgers you used. Greater Good: With Hogaak himself, this card is bonkers. If you run at least 2 Eternal Witness-type effects, permanents like this aren't that hard to recur back. The Cauldron of Eternity: Always going to cost BB and is always insane value if it sticks. It's easy to find 3 tokens from Field of the Dead or utility creatures like Satyr Wayfinder for the cost. The tapped and attacking clause, Gyrus becoming however big of a beater you want, and powerful red cards like Ogre Battledriver (Haste!), Xenagod, and Purphoros add a lot of explosiveness.ĭread Return: Really good card to bin with a free flashback. The color Red Gyrus gets adds a lot of aggression to the deck. (Hogaak is already delving right? What's the difference?) Your graveyard becomes your toolbox with Gyrus generating free value. Most people can't get over the downside of exiling the creature Gyrus hits, but when you dredge, there's always way too many targets to choose. However, Gyrus as a Jund Dredge Commander is gross. I've seen a lot of Gyrus builds and most aren't all that powerful.
